Tribute To The Late (Executive Director) Ms. Nuno

It has been a year now since we lost our beloved Executive Director, Ms Nuno and it is difficult to convey everything that she meant to all of us. She was a founding member of FONZ from 1999- but like every other organization, many founding members stopped taking part in our activities but every time she continued and ultimately became not only the Executive Secretary of FONZ but the real driving force behind it.

Whenever the animals in the Zoo needed food, she knocked on every possible door to procure food for them. When there was no water, no electricity, no lighting at the Zoo, Ms.Nuno organized and ent us to look for donations to make sure the animals would have these necessities.

When the lion in the zoo had problems with its paw, Ms. Nuno persuaded the Kenya Wildlife Service to send a veterinary officer to perform a life saving operation on it.

When the zoo needed beautification, Ms. Nuno organized the best artist in Ghana to paint murals on the fence around the zoo.

Finally, when Jubilee house threatened to close the zoo, Ms.Nuno fought the authorities until a hundred hectare area of land was allocated to the new zoo in the Achimota forest. Though she always exhibited friendly disposition, her steely moral strength was just below the surface. Those of us who worked with her had supreme confidence in her because we knew that whatever goals were set by her would be attained.

Today FONZ has truly become an orphan. We pray to God to help find another Ms. Nuno. With the greatest of our love, we say fair well to you.

WAPCA see your death as a great loss. It was through your love for the conservation of nature that WAPCA was established in Ghana. Today the endangered primate centre is well established and world renowned. We owe this to you. Indeed WAPCA, FONZ, WD, Accra zoo and the entire nation of Ghana has lost an industrious daughter. We say fare thee well and have a peaceful rest
